The park of the Chateau de Bourron: little history…
Surrounding the castle, the enclosed grounds spread their 100 acre estate of grass and woods adjoining the forest of Fontainebleau. There are a few surprises : hidden behind the little house, the romantic spring from Neolithic times, called “source Saint-Sévère” gives birth to the canal ; the statue of Céres to the north, the statue of Saint Joseph by Fernand Py under the clusters of trees, and the Maison d’Artagnan. But the major axis of this formal garden is indeed the great perspective: to the South, with the canal and the path of linden trees, it gives the Château de Bourron all its magnificence. The place has been registered on the supplementary inventory since 1926 and classified since 1971as Historic Monument.
The park and the influence of the fashion landscape painter through centuries:
There are no archives, as those were destroyed during the Revolution period. However we can trace back the evolution of the park in 4 times! We abandon the medieval gardens in the XVIth and XVIIth century, for the organization of the park, determinedly “à la française”, end XVIIth century, the canal south perspective was drilled, in the XIXth century transformation of the park “à l’anglaise” and finally at the beginning of the XXth century, in 1930, the Count Blaise de Montesquiou transformed the organization of the park as a park “à la française” (French type) with more than 500 linden trees planted in the perspectives, yews, box trees cut in the form of grenades…
